Falling in Reverse’s Ronnie Radke Reveals Six Things Not To Do in Jail in new interview

There’s a line in The Shawshank Redemption where hardened jailbird Red Redding (played by Morgan Freeman) asks the newly incarcerated Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) why he murdered his wife, and Dufresne claims he was set up. “Hell, you’re gonna fit right in then” replies Redding. “Everyone’s innocent in here. Don’t you know that?” Of course, during the course of the film, the viewer finds out that Dufresne was, in fact, innocent, but was caught up in a corrupt system.
The Falling in Reverse frontman (then the frontman for Escape the Fate) claims he suffered the same fate as Dufresne. In 2008. Radke got into a nasty confrontation in the Las Vegas desert. The rocker went there to take part in a showdown with a thug who was threatening him and Escape the Fate’s bassist Max Green, so Radke brought some friends for protection. Unfortunately, so did his rival. Shots were fired and two men were shot, one fatally. Police found brass knuckles on Radke and charged him with concealing a deadly weapon. Everyone else, he claims, got off scott free.
“I was told if I pleaded guilty to one felony count of assault and battery I’d get probation,” Radke says. “I actually didn’t hurt anybody. But I saw it happen. I should have gotten a gross misdemeanor. I didn’t shoot anybody. I would never even carry a gun. That’s crazy. I didn’t even know anybody had a gun. I don’t know why else everybody got off. They were making an example of me.”
Radke received probation, but the terms included being clean and he was addicted to narcotics at the time and unable to kick. He also had to have a 40-hour-a-week job and remain in the state, which meant he couldn’t tour with Escape the Fate. “I was high on drugs and I was depressed so I didn’t listen to anything the judge was telling me I did whatever I wanted.”
Busted for violating probation, a judge sentenced Radke to 18 to 48 months behind bars. Partway through his sentence, he got a prison tattoo and shortly after got into a fistfight with inmates who didn’t appreciate his rock-and-roll tattoos and quasi-celebrity status. When guards checked inmates hands after the fight, not only did they notice Radke’s scraped, bruised knuckles, they saw his freshly healing prison tattoo. Since both fighting and tats were against the rules, Radke was put into solitary confinement. With nothing else to do and no one to talk to, he wrote songs in his cell without the use of an instrument or tape recorder. When he got out of jail after two and a half years (half spent in solitary for belligerence), he put a new band together, Falling in Reverse, and entered the studio with producer Elvis Baskette. A few months later, they had recorded The Drug in Me is You, which came out July 26 at number 19 on the Billboard album chart.
Instead of talking about how he found his bandmates, created the record, and what it was like to be a free man working on a new album, Radke talked to RevolverMag.com about something far more practical: Things not to do if you find yourself behind bars.

1. Don’t have fans send letters to your jail cell.
“I got thousands of letters while I was in jail and the guards hated me because they had to do extra work to sort through shit. When I left, they made me throw away three out of six boxes of fan mail because there wasn’t enough room in the van they were taking me out. The letters I got from fans were crazy. They were so passionate. A mother wrote me because her daughter was sick. She had some type of disease and she asked me if I could go to her birthday party in Texas because she was dying. I got a lot of mail from people who cut themselves and they said my music made them stop. I also got so many love letters and proposals, but most of them said I helped them a lot with the lyrics I write and they loved me and couldn’t wait ’til I got out. I couldn’t believe they would do that for me or that they’d even remember me.”
2. Don’t tell the guards you’re calling your lawyer when you’re really calling home.
“I said I was making a legal call to call my lawyer. They give you the phone every time if you say that. But I couldn’t get hold of him, so I called my dad and then I got in trouble for that because they were listening in. They took my TV and phone away for 60 days.”
3. Don’t do anything to piss off the Chief Executive Officer of the jail.
“I was in the visiting room and I got mad at the CEO because I asked for my release date and she wouldn’t give it to me. It was sitting right on her desk. I got 30 days of extra time for that.”
4. Don’t worry about dropping the soap.
“It’s pretty gnarly, but there are no rapes or anything in prison anymore. That stopped happening when the structures of prisons changed. Now there are cameras and people got shotguns and stuff.”
5. Don’t get involved in a prison gang.
“People get stabbed that way. I saw that happen in gang rivalries a couple times. I saw somebody get stabbed in the neck. A guy just stuck him and he was bleeding everywhere, but he survived.”
6. Don’t do drugs.
“I used to be so fucked up on drugs. I was doing heroin, Oxycontin, cocaine all mixed together. I should be dead, actually. I overdosed in 2005 on Oxy and Xanax, which is a lethal combination. I took three shots of vodka and I don’t remember taking the Xanax. But when I got to jail, I just said, ‘I hate all drugs’ and I stayed away from ‘em. The title of the album is a reference to myself. I looked in the mirror one day, saw death staring me in the face, and realized I’m my own downfall. The lyrics are me talking to myself, realizing what I’ve become. I realized that instead of the drugs being the problem, the actual problem was me and that I could change it. I told myself that when I got out, no matter how I felt, I wasn’t going to do any drugs. I was afraid I was fooling myself because I’ve always been told that’s the kind of person I am. But I haven’t even thought of scoring drugs. I have no cravings or anything.” JON WIEDERHORN

Augustana have announced they have decided to call it a day.

Front man Dan Layus has made the following statement:

"Basically the two original members with me as well, Justin [South] and Jared [Palomar], have parted ways. It’s a sad thing, but it’s been an amicable split and it’s just kinda tough,” Layus reveals. “It’s hard to keep a band together. We had a good run and it was a blast while we could do it, but everybody is good. Everybody is friends. It’s just tough to sustain a business like that."

Augustine Rampolla and Kyle Gibson (of You, Me And Everyone We Know) have now started a new band called, The Little Indians.

Augustine Rampolla and Kyle Gibson (of You, Me And Everyone We Know) have now started a new band called, The Little Indians.

The band have released the following statement:

"t’s with great excitement we officially announce that after the collapse of the band You, Me, and Everyone We Know, the most dashing (I mean, come on!) third of the group, AUGUSTINE RAMPOLLA and KYLE GIBSON, have been hard at work on the formation of a new musical undertaking.

The new band, THE LITTLE INDIANS, is an extremely vast blend of indie and pop music. Rampolla has taken handfuls of unused instrumentals he composed with intent of becoming new YMAEWK material and turned them into something different, of his own flavor. However, in addition to those sounds, he has crafted an entirely new sound that differs from the powerful pop/rock format that was YMAEWK. The result, from song to song, is a broad, seemingly limitless, sonic landscape. Whether fast or slow, hopeful or sullen, Rampolla and Gibson have explored a wide array of sounds and aren’t holding back when it comes to their stylistic approach of their new music.

All the material thus far has been engineered, produced and performed by the band in their home studio outside of Baltimore, Maryland. Though there is already more than enough material for THE LITTLE INDIANS first full length record (or two if they so desired), the duo is taking their time with an initial release in an effort to not oversaturate listeners and to thoroughly refine the content of which they have already written.

The first single from THE LITTLE INDIANS, optimistically titled, “What Makes You Grin?”, will premiere on Tuesday, September 20, 2011.

The tune, as previously stated was recorded, produced, and performed by the band, with mixing credits attributed to friend and fellow Baltimore engineer/producer Trevor Simpson, who produced and made possible You, Me and Everyone We Know’s Doghouse Records release, “Some Things Don’t Wash Out”."

Drummer leaves the Downtown Fiction, band gains official guitarist

Drummer leaves the Downtown Fiction, band gains official guitaristEric Jones, drummer of the Downtown Fiction, has left the band. Additionally, the band's touring guitarist, Wes Dimond, is now an official member.
Read an official announcement from the band and Eric below.
Though we never like saying goodbye, Eric has decided to leave the band to pursue a career on the industry side of music. We're incredibly happy for him and fully support his decision. With that said, we're thrilled to announce that our live guitarist, Wes Dimond (Follow him on twitter @WesDimond), has become an official member of The Downtown Fiction and hope everyone will give him a warm welcome! As for our upcoming tour with the Plain White T's, our good friend Anthony Villacari from Cash Cash will be coming along to play drums. Thank you to our TDF family for all your continuing support. See everyone on tour this fall!
-The Downtown Fiction
A message from Eric Jones:
After three years of being in The Downtown Fiction, I have decided to leave to pursue other opportunities in music. I’m incredibly thankful for all the places I’ve been able to see, the people I’ve met and all of the experiences I was so fortunate to have. I never imagined I would have been able to do something like this and still have to pinch myself now that it’s over (for me, at least).
I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this experience – I’m forever indebted to you. Thank you to my band, our manager Greg, the great people at Photo Finish Records, all of the bands I’ve toured with and the fans who made this all possible. Please continue to support The Downtown Fiction as you always have – I certainly will.
- Eric

Woe, Is Me have announced that former vocalist Tyler Carter has been replaced by Hance Alligood

Woe, Is Me have announced that former vocalist Tyler Carter has been replaced by Hance Alligood.

The band released the following statement:

"We're beyond thrilled to announce our dear friend Hance Alligood as the new vocalist of Woe, Is Me. We feel this is making our band even more of a family than it was before, given our history with Hance. He was the original vocalist of this band, and we parted ways shortly before becoming public. We are 100% positive that this is how it should have been from the beginning.

Upon welcoming Hance to our band we entered the studio to work on a reissue of number[s] that's going to include some remixes, a new cover, and a few surprises. One surprise being a new single titled "Vengeance." We hope the new single and reissue will hold you guys off for a bit, as we will be entering the studio in May to record our sophomore album.

We feel now we are in full force, and we don't plan on letting anybody down. That said: be wary of rumors you hear about this band. We are not breaking up, and we will always have nothing but a rigorous touring schedule so we can see all of your pretty faces."

Good Charlotte announce plans to go on hiatus

Good Charlotte announce plans to go on hiatusGood Charlotte have announced plans to take an extended break from the band while pursuing other outlets.
"We're stepping away from the grind of making records and touring for a minute, just to have fun and be creative like we were when we were 15," guitarist Benji Madden told Rolling Stone.
Benji and his twin brother Joel have already announced a new project in the form of a mixtape,Before The Fame: The Madden Brothers. Set for an October 1 release, it will showcase the brothers collaborating with a variety of artists.
"We're already having a blast in our studio with all these new artists making music just for fun. And the mixtape's free, they're going to get it for free, there's no quota we're trying to fill, there's no machine we're trying to fuel, we just want to make music with new artists and god bless EMI, they let us do what we want," said Joel Madden.
